A Sympathy Card

Hello, all!  We have a beautiful day here in Katy.  I love days like this.  The sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky, and I'm wearing shorts and flip-flops on February 22nd.  That's why I love Texas and that's why I live in Texas!  I've been doing some stamping.  Unfortunately, sometimes we need to make sympathy cards.  I have a dear friend whose father passed away over the weekend.  I think this card is a nice card for a sympathy card, but when you have a classic design like this, it really is suitable for any sentiment.  I like it especially for sympathy cards, though, and made this one for my friend.  It's sad to lose your dad.  I know all too well what that feels like.  Ugh!  It's awful.  Here's my card.

Guess what else I'm doing?  I'm spray-painting jar lids in my garage.  Ha!  I can't let St. Patty's Day get by without a jar holding Andes mints.  I'll share it when I'm finished.  I'm also currently working on a small sampler that I'll show you soon!  Have a good day!

My Love Affair With Jars

Happy Friday!  I love it when the weekend rolls around.  My family is all home and everything feels right with the world!  I've been wanting to tell you about my recent love affair with jars.  I just can't get enough of them.  I made some for Christmas gifts and just recently made some for Valentine's Day, and I'm already thinking about St. Patrick's Day and Easter.  Use a jar that has a screw lid.  I've tried Mason jars, but I prefer jars that have a single piece for the lid.  Drill a hole in the center, spray paint the lid whatever color you'd like, and then add a beautiful drawer knob to make it look beautiful!  If you have a knob that is flat, you can Super Glue it to the lid, eliminating the need for drilling.  My dear husband drills the holes for me and is even kind enough to cut down the screw so it doesn't show on the inside of the jar, but if your husband isn't willing, flat knobs work!  Of course attaching an adorable tag finishes the project off nicely.  Here are several I made for Christmas gifts using a round crystal knob, a diamond-shaped crystal knob, and an oblong crystal knob.  They are perfect for hostess gifts.  What I like about jar projects is that you can save your own jars.  Spaghetti sauce jars and jelly jars are perfect.  I have a nice little stash going of jars I'm saving for future projects.  I'm telling you, I'm in love with this!

Aren't they fun?  I made a canister set that I put Christmas candy in.  The red canisters look cute with Valentine's Day candy, too!

I also painted some lids for Valentine's Day and they are super-cute!  This can be a relatively inexpensive gift, unless you use expensive knobs or candy, but they are special because you made them yourself!  The tags finish it off perfectly.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Try making some jars yourself and share them with me.  I'd love to see what you come up with!

Valentine's Day Card for 2017

Greetings, my friends!  I hope your day is off to a great start!  I wanted to share my Valentine's Day card with you for 2017.  I copied this directly from Maile Belles' card using all Papertrey products.  I love the softness of the colors.  The paper is White and Soft Stone.  The inks are Harvest Gold, Raspberry Fizz, and Sweet Blush.  I don't have the stamp set Maile used, but I used what I had on hand and it worked out just fine.  If you have a "Love" stamp, just stamp it three times in different colors, add your black "You," and it really pops.  I love this idea!  I added the Silver Glimmer Paper circles (which is a Stampin' Up! product) to add some bling because you know I love bling.  Hope you enjoy it - and Happy Valentine's Day to you!

Mom's 87th Birthday

Good Day to You!  Yesterday was a special day for our family.  My mom turned 87 years old!  We took a road trip to Brenham, Texas - which is a wonderful town that we lived in many, many years ago.  I went to elementary school there and had many birthday parties at the city park.  We still have good friends there - and had lunch with one of my mom's dearest friends, Marice, as well as her daughter, Marla.  We ate at the Funky Art CafĂ© and had quiche.  It was fun to hear mom and Marice visiting about the good old days back in Brenham!  Don't you think my mom looks phenomenal?  She's the young lady in the middle!

We had a fun day and already have a date planned for them to come see us here in Katy!  Happy Birthday, Mom!  You are beautiful!

Last weekend we also had a family birthday party for mom.  As many family members as were able came in to town and we had a good time together.  We ordered pizzas in and had chocolate fondue with all the trimmings.  It was a great birthday for mom with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in-laws.  Now let's look forward to reaching 88!

Embroidery Fun

Good morning to you!  I've been exploring some new hobbies lately, one of which is embroidery.  I really enjoy it.  I have so much to learn about it, but there's something that draws me to it.  I love that I can say anything I want on an empty canvas and turn it into a pretty picture.  I took a beginner embroidery class at Michael's and it set me on fire.  There are so many things I want to embroider, but it's hard to find the time.  I'll get to it, I just need to be patient!  I really want to get back to my cross-stitching, too.  I'll get there......someday.  Here is the project we made at Michael's in the beginner class that set me on fire.  I couldn't wait to get home because I knew I had the perfect frame for it.  I can't wait to make more!

Since I had so much fun making this "amour" picture, I tried to make an embroidered baby picture for a friend whose daughter had a baby girl.  I didn't do the greatest job with it, but I'll get there.  I guess it's true that practice makes perfect.......and I need lots of practice!

And here's the baby card I sent along with it.  See?  I really do still stamp and make cards.  LOL!

I'll be back soon with some Valentine's Day things I've made!  Have a good day.
